Web Development PDF Print E-mail

One of the consequences of publishing hundreds of magazines if that you end up with a whole lot of content, which just goes to waste if the magazines sit around on a shelf or table somewhere.

Over a decade you end up with thousands of articles, or in my case, over 5,000 articles, on a wide variety of subjects.

Back in 1997 we registered Think.cz in the Czech Republic to create an on-line archive, a site which brought us tens of thousands of new readers every month and not a bad amount of advertising revenue, via AdSense, our advertising clients and paid links.

Need an easy to use and dynamic web site? We can build one for any budget! Just click on enquiries on the menu and send me your brief... I'll get you a quote right away.

But like all good things, things change. And by 2007 revenue was dropping because our site had too wide a focus. So with the help of Franklin Pruett, I began learning about CMS (believe me, editing 5,000+ in static html pages had worn me out). In the end the system I settled on was the open-source program Joomla.

From the original content and new articles submitted by volunteers (and my insatiable urge to write), I have broken the orginal Think.cz site into the following niche domains:

Think Expats Singapore is a continuation of our relationship with our audience in Singapore since ceasing print operations in 2007. In this site you'll find all things uniquely Singapore, with lots of shop, restaurant and entertainment content.

The Witty Barman Guide became the repository of hundreds of nighlife venue and bar reviews, tales of drunkeness and our favorite cocktail recipes. In fact, if you Google "barman guide" (as thousands around the world do every day) we come up #1.

Gashaus - Where the Music Lives, located on the former domain of my music bar in Singapore, is now home to all things musical, with thousands of music reviews and hundreds of pages of music related content. If you've ever Googled "live music Singapore" you will have noticed we're #1 for a very long time.

ThinkScene was created for all the companies sending us press releases for their events to have a place to call home. Even though it is a new site, within a short amount of time the traffic started rolling in and the site has earned a PR of 3.

FashionBrain - Thinkin' about Fashion is the new home of the thousands of consumer oriented reviews and style articles we've published over the years, and enjoys a fair amount of traffic even though it too is a new domain.

Think-Magazine.com for a long time was the US mirror site for our Czech domain, but after completion of the content migration, it will be where all the political and "thought" pieces will be located. Think.cz will become the node for Think Expats Czech Republic. I've also created subdomains on this parent site; ThinkCinema, ThinkRelationships and ThinkTravel, to host all the content in those niches.

Thinknovation is my most humble site to date, a repository for ecological and environmental articles and thoughts that have graced the pages of Think over the years..

Having mastered Joomla CMS, I have taken on some commercial projects as well, a revamp of a static html site for the Lion Rock Institute, and two very special sister sites, Agency.Asia and Designweek.Asia, two of the most advanced sites I've produced to date, and well worth a peek. The community building systems learned on these sites will be implemented across all my sites in Phase II.

Contract Publishing PDF Print E-mail

In addition to being a freelance writer and photographer for other magazines, on occasion I contract to help new and existing publishers with their new projects and revamps.

Below are some such magazines I worked on. If you'd like a consultation regarding your next publishing project, use the enquiry link to email me.

FIT Magazine is a woman's fitness and lifestyle licensee in the Czech Republic, and I designed their first two issues and marketing collaterals, as well as contributed some photography. Once the styles were set and the new designer briefed, my job was done.

HELE Magazine was a quarterly fashion and trend magazine, over 100 pages per issue and featuring some of the best fashion photography and features in the Czech Republic.

LOOK BOOK, and LOOKBOOK MEN were two magazines I was contracted to revamp in Singapore for Pan Pac Media. While there, once those two were done, I also was a contributing art director for NewMan Magazine.

SIN Magazine was the first all youth, all computer produced magazine of the desktop revolution, and I came on at the second issue and stayed until it folded, working as Senior Editor. Originally a free two color newsprint magazine, under my guidance and prodding it became a full colour news stand magazine with an international audience.

Clue? Magazine was a free, two colour, large circulation seasonal arts and culture guide to downtown living in San Diego, California. I did the first three issues.

STYL X was a contract specialty publication in the Czech Republic, for Ringier, the parent company of Reflex Magazine. The first issue broke all sales records up to that point in history.

Walker One is a new in-house fashion magazine focusing on footwear, and distributed exclusively in Walker Shops in Hong Kong and China. This bi-lingual magazine, now two issues old, was made in partnership with Alvin Lim, who handled design, while I wrote the articles and copy with a mind to being translation friendly for the Chinese language.

Think Magazines PDF Print E-mail

I founded Think Magazine as an entertaining, informative and enlightening, full-colored, free magazine about music, art, fashion and modern urban culture, with an eye towards covering interesting new trends in the fast changing world around us.

Founded in 1996 in Prague, Think represented a new generation of publishing in Eastern Europe, and was in fact the first magazine supported soley by advertising revenue in the former Soviet block. By giving people a bearing in an increasingly globalising world, Think Magazine has earned a loyal and ever growing readership, which continues to this day online.

Intended for open-minded, independent young adults, with an aim to intelligently inform readers via quality articles, inspiring ideas for living, profiles on the people who move society, we worked hard at maintaining a deep respect for internationally established ethical norms for both journalism and advertising.

Think Magazine is still published to this day in the Czech Republic, under the moniker Think Again. In 2004 I launched a Singapore edition, Think Singapore, which following global publishing trends, now exists as an online magazine at ThinkExpats.com.

During my tenure with Think, I produced each and every issue of the magazine, and as Editor in Chief / Publisher, I managed writers, editors, designers and sales staff to successfully ensure the timely production of 94 issues of the magazine, as well as other contract publishing jobs.

While publishing Think Magazine in Singapore, I partnered together with free postcard company ZoCard to launch Navigator, a monthly, A6-sized free publication that covers Singapore’s entertainment and lifestyle scene.

Navigator, targeted to the 17 to 35 age group, spotlights in short reviews cool things to see and do, places to go and enjoy, stuff to buy and try. Our target audience is the hip and trendy cosmopolitan consumer.

Circulation is running at 48 pages, with a print run of 30,000 and distributed at 500 locations consisting of channels such as universities, polytechnics, art venues, and SMBs, all the locations within the Zocard network.

Ad sales were done by ZoCard, while I handled all editorial and design production.
